Peter Sciscioli is a project based choreographer based in New York City.  Drawing from his background as a dancer, athlete, singer, and violinist, he creates work that combines his interest in kinetic manifestation of dynamics, (physical, interpersonal, social-political) with the body's ability to express itself in myriad ways. For over a decade, Sciscioli has been creating dance-based works that frequently incorporate theatrical, and visual elements, with a variety of collaborators, for concert, site-specific, and theater venues. more information

What Change

What Change (2009-2010) is an evening-length work by Peter Sciscioli What Change investigates the nature of transformation in performance through kinetic, sonic and temporal consideration of the world's current state of affairs. Using stark and formal configurations, the work seeks to simultaneously offer a subjective and objective view of the performers who engage in task-like, yet emotionally driven behaviors. The spaces between persona and essence, character and caricature are questioned and explored. The work exists as a series of highly structured improvisations, involving explosive and kinetic as well as pedestrian movements, orginal vocal scores, text, song, and pre-recorded music.

Where does sound originate in the body? How can voice become movement? This work for 3 dancers and 3 musicians draws it's inspiration from Meredith Monk's Epic, Sciscioli own idiosyncratic movement vocabulary, and his experience performing Monk's work as a co-founder of The M6: Meredith Monk Third Generation. The 3 singers (three woman of the M6), are directly incorporated into the staging of the piece, crafted specifically for each of the spaces in which it is performed.
